Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54 mile track in Hampton, Georgia. The track sits on 870 acres in Hampton, Ga., just 25 miles south of Atlanta, It was founded in 1960 and has been a mainstay of NASCAR action ever since. This intermediate, quad oval racetrack, will host the Kobalt Tools 500 in March, and the Pep Boys Auto 500 in October, both of those races being in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Fireball Roberts won the first race at the track, located near the city of Hampton, Ga., on July 31, 1960, at the track that was then called Atlanta International Raceway.
